Visiting the Alabama Coastline |
|
The Alabama coastline is one of the best kept secrets. Bordering the ever-popular state of Florida, the Alabama coastline is just as beautiful as its neighboring cities along the Gulf. It’s easy to reach by car, as it’s only a few hours drive from most cities in Alabama and western Florida. And even if you’re planning a trip during the late fall or winter months, the weather is still pleasant enough to stroll along the shore. One of the popular beaches on this stretch of coastline is Orange Beach. It’s ideal for just relaxing on the white sandy beaches while watching the waves crash on shore. If you like fishing, it’s another big pastime here, especially on the pier that separates Orange Beach from the next beach over, Gulf Shores. You’ll have no problem finding a place to throw your fishing rod over since this pier happens to be the longest one along the Gulf coast. But if fishing isn’t your thing, take one of the day cruises where you’ll see dolphins jumping up and down in the warm Gulf waters. Gulf Shores, the next beach over, has equally charming beaches along with hotels and stores that line its perimeter. And if you have time, visit Gulf State Park and play a round of golf or fish at the park’s huge lake. If still in search of the perfect Alabama beach experience, drive on over to nearby Dauphin Island via the Gordon Persons Bridge. Since it’s a narrow barrier island, you won’t find many people that call this home, nor will you find many crowds, even in the usually busy summer season. That’s great if you just want to close your eyes and catch some shut-eye at the beach. Besides its peaceful beach, Dauphin Island is a major stopping place for migratory birds. In fact, it’s been designated as a major bird sanctuary. It’s the perfect spot to take out your binoculars and watch the various birds fly by. And if marine life is your thing, visit the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, Alabama’s coveted marine research center. A visit to the area’s public aquarium is also a must for marine lovers. Alabama’s Gulf coast is one place you don’t want to miss. |
